Running Boards FAQ

← All Product FAQs

Erkul Running Boards are side steps made for your specific vehicle, rated for 350 lbs. They mount to your vehicle's rocker panels — driver and passenger side brackets are different.

Are running boards different from crossbars?

Yes, completely different products.

  • Running boards are side steps that mount under your doors, attached to the vehicle's rocker panels — they help you step up into a truck or SUV.
  • Crossbars sit on top of the roof and carry cargo (cargo boxes, bikes, kayaks, etc.).

If you're not sure which you need, our team is happy to help — just tell us what you're trying to carry or do.

The brackets don't seem to align with my vehicle

Each set of running boards is made for a specific vehicle, so a few things to check:

  • Year/make/model/trim — some trims have different mounting points than the base model. Confirm the SKU matches your exact trim.
  • Driver vs. passenger side — brackets differ between sides. Make sure you're matching each bracket to the correct side.
  • Bracket count — some vehicles use 3 or 4 brackets per side. Confirm all brackets are present.

If everything matches and they still don't align, send us photos of the mounting area and the brackets and we'll help diagnose.

The running boards creak or flex when stepped on

Our running boards are rated for 350 lbs — creaking is usually a loose mounting bolt rather than a defective board.

  1. Fully tighten all mounting bolts.
  2. Check that the rubber pads/bumpers are installed between bracket and frame.
  3. If they're tight and still creaking, applying thread-lock to the bolts often solves it.

If the board itself is visibly flexing or bending, that's a possible defect — please send photos and a short video and we'll cover it under warranty.

I see rust or corrosion on my running boards

Send us photos showing where the rust is appearing:

  • On the board surface itself — this should not happen and is covered under our 2-year warranty as a coating defect.
  • On hardware only — surface rust on hardware can occur in heavy salt/winter regions. We'll send free replacement stainless steel hardware.

In heavy-salt regions, a periodic rust inhibitor spray helps protect both the board and the hardware.

I stripped a mounting bolt during installation

If a single bolt stripped, contact us — we can ship replacement hardware. If multiple bolts stripped during normal tightening, that may indicate the wrong hardware size was included. Send us your order number and we'll investigate and ship a corrected hardware kit.

You don't carry running boards for my vehicle

Search for your vehicle on erkulautousa.com. If we don't currently carry running boards for it, contact us — we log every request and pass it to our product team. We can't promise availability or timelines, but popular vehicles are reviewed for product expansion.

Is there a warranty on running boards?

Yes — all Erkul running boards carry a 2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects (cracking, coating failure, hardware failure under normal use). Damage from accidents, exceeding the weight limit, or modifications is not covered.

How do I return running boards?

Standard 30-day return window from the delivery date, in original packaging and unused or gently used. If they don't fit, please contact us first — we can often resolve the issue without a return. If you'd still like to return, we'll send a prepaid return label.

Still need help?

Our support team can usually resolve fitment, installation, and parts issues within minutes — most "doesn't fit" situations turn out to be a simple adjustment.
